inspire me thursday prompt - elephant. i painted one, and couldn’t stop there. it was fun, but i’m not an animal painter. that much i know is true.

i also signed up to do misty mawn’s challenge - art journal every day. i have been doing it (more or less), but i’ve been horrible about updating my blog lately. just too lazy to take pictures and blaaaah blaaah blah. but, i now have photos taken, so i will update more later.

how are you all doing? are you keeping up with your new year’s resolutions?

i’m behind on reading blogs, again. i’ll be around soon, promise.

perfect!

perfect way to start the first day of the new year? jump out of bed, throw on sweat pants and sweat shirt. make coffee, dash to the car, drive, park, hike for 2+ hours around the lake with bf and dog. come home, make mimosas and pancakes. lounge on couch, take nap. watch hgtv. perfect.

more photos later.

Voices - on birch plywood

This is a little blurry, but it’s not like that in person. My scanner has a hard time with beeswax. I have thought about doing the scans before I put the wax on, but I want the depth of the layers to show as best as possible. So, I have to deal with a little blur.

“Miz Katie” is only on the photo, not the actual piece.

This a print, which I have hand painted with acrylic paint to give it depth. It has a painted feel when it’s touched, making it more like a painting than a print. I like that effect.

It has a white border attached around three edges. I also added glitter and gloss gel to make it shiny. It is sealed with beeswax.

I have two of these available. One is in my Etsy shop right now. And, the other is in my ArtFire shop. Each one differs from the other slightly because I hand painted them. The photo represents only one of the pieces.

My IF entry for this week. I’m really having fun with these prompts. I think I’m going to keep doing it.

I’m trying to fill this book up by the end of the year, so I can start a new one. I’m not sure it’s gonna happen. I still have 8 or 10 pages left to do. Eh, whatever. It doesn’t really matter. I’m not traditional. I’ll just keep puttering along, and if I finish it by 2009, great! If not, it wasn’t meant to be.

poor dear. she tried to do art all day, but she kept hearing loud negative voices in her head.

“blah, blah, blah.
your art sucks.
why do you bother?
are you kidding me?
you can’t draw.
you can’t paint.
you call that art?
you call yourself an artist??!!
blah, blah, blah”

if you’re an artist, you probably know this voice well. it’s that voice in your head asking what you think you’re doing. always criticizing and being negative. it could be voices you actually heard in the past, and you’ve got them stuck on replay for some reason. or it could just be your inner critic.

well, i got one thing to say about that.. since you know the voice so well, tell it to shut the *bleeeep* up and go away.

ah!
all better now.

This is my contribution to Illustration Friday. The topic is Voices.

Box exercise

December 17, 2008 - 2:46 pm 2 Comments

I am totally stealing this from someone on my LiveJournal friendlist.

Box exercise

So, say you were meeting a new person–blind date, new friend, who knows. And you wanted them to have some idea of what kind of person you are, and who you are. But you can’t actually tell them in so many words.

Instead, you have to give them a box, with a dozen things in it for them to look at/read/listen to/taste/whatever. What would you put in the box?

1. art supplies

2. a statue of Buddha, and books/website links about his teachings.

3. one of my cameras..maybe the tiny one that fits in the palm of my hand

4. a white cake with white frosting and a hot cup of espresso

5. the Atlantic ocean and Old Orchard Beach in Portland ME

6. vegetables, lentils, tofu, soy milk, fruit, and maybe an “I am vegetarian” bumper sticker. ha!

7. SUMMER!

8. photographs of family and those I love

9. - my favorite book at the moment: the art of looking sideways

10. a photo of my fur babies - Fred, Izzie, Emma, and Scrappy

11. my computer and laptop

12. - my favorite CD at the moment: Chants to Awaken the Buddhist Heart

New page from my altered book art journal. I get confused on what to call it. it’s really an altered book, but I prefer to call it my “art journal”. it used to be a book about golf. Although I’m a sports fan (basketball, football, boxing, skating, ALL extreme sports, the Olympics..yeah, i will pretty much watch anything sports related) i’m not into golf (or baseball, unless i’m there in person). So, technically it is an altered book..turned into my art journal.
